AI Models in BibGenie
Introduction to the various built-in AI models in BibGenie and how to customize AI models
Overview
BibGenie provides different AI models for different user types, allowing you to choose the most suitable model based on your needs and subscription level.
Model Availability
The models available to you depend on your user type. Guest users have access to free models, while Pro users can access all models including the latest multimodal models.
User Types and Model Access
Guest Users
Available Models: Free Models only
- Unlimited long-term use - No usage restrictions
- Rate limits may apply - Performance may be throttled during peak times
- Rarely updated - Models are updated less frequently
- Best for: Regular Q&A conversations, concept explanations, paragraph translations
Free Models
Free models are perfect for everyday tasks like simple translations and basic question answering. They're available to all users without any subscription.
Free Users
Available Models: Free Models + Some Official Models
- Larger parameter counts - More powerful than free models
- Higher performance - Better suited for complex tasks
- Rate limits may apply - Similar to guest users
- Lower update frequency - Updates less often than Pro models
- Best for: Full PDF translations, literature review generation, more complex research tasks
Pro Users
Available Models: All models including Official Models
- Highest performance - Superior literature understanding capabilities
- Multimodal support - Can directly add images as context to conversations
- Frequent updates - Regularly updated to stay synchronized with the latest large language models
- No rate limits - Full access without throttling
- Best for: Advanced research, PDF literature analysis, figure interpretation of papers
Upgrade to Pro
Pro users get access to the latest multimodal models that can process images and documents together, making research workflows more efficient.
Custom Models
BibGenie also supports adding Custom Models (Custom Models), allowing you to integrate your own AI model providers.
Supported Model Providers
You can add custom models from the following providers:
- OpenAI - GPT-4, GPT-3.5, and other OpenAI models
- Anthropic - Claude models
- XAI - Grok models
- Deepseek - Deepseek models
- OpenRouter - Access to multiple model providers through OpenRouter
- Ollama - Local models via Ollama
- OpenAI Compatible - Any API-compatible service
Custom Model Configuration
Custom models require API keys or endpoint configuration. Make sure you have the necessary credentials before adding a custom model.
Managing Models
You can view and manage all available models through the model settings page.
Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the BibGenie plugin window
Select "llm-settings" from the menu
You'll see the model settings page with three sections:
- Official Models - Paid models available to Pro users
- Free Models - Free models available to all users
- Custom Models - Your custom configured models
Model Controls
The model settings page provides the following controls:
- Toggle Switch - Each model has a toggle switch on the right to enable or disable it
- Model Selection - Enabled models appear in the dropdown below the input box in the chat interface
- Refresh Button - Located next to Official Models and Free Models titles to refresh the model list
- Reset Button - Located next to Custom Models title to reset all custom model configurations
Resetting Custom Models
Clicking the Reset button will remove all your custom model configurations. Make sure to save your API keys and settings before resetting.
